There will be a demonstration of the paramedic scenarios taking place on the St. George’s island on Thursday 14th January at 2pm GMT/9am EST.
This demonstration will be open to any interested parties, so please feel free to come along to the St George’s island if you would like to find out more.
We would ask that you ensure that voice chat is enabled in Second Life on your system prior to the session, as this will help the demonstration to run as smoothly and quickly as possible. The demonstration will be given using voice chat, and we will be unable to output all the information through the text chat interface.
It is planned that further demonstrations will take place at regular intervals in the future. These will be announced on the St George’s Virtual Worlds website. The site is currently under construction, and will be launched at http://www.elu.sgul.ac.uk/virtualworlds/index.htm shortly. Please monitor this site for details of upcoming demonstrations.

Learning to use second life can be quite a learning curve and in the first instance all we really want to do is get into second life and play but we are restricted by the help island tutorial, which most of us skip anyway. For a more conventional step by step guide to learning the functions and skills of second life drop by to St George’s University of London Island where you can use their orientation maze to learn some of the basic skills.Simply click on the button below to telelport to the island.

On 10th March the PREVIEW Immersive Virtual Training Environment (PIVOTE) will move out of beta and into a stable release.
One of the aims of the PREVIEW project has been to make the bulk of the code behind the SGUL paramedic scenarios (the PIVOTE system) available under an open source licence agreement, so that anybody who wishes to can obtain a copy of the system and implement their own scenarios. Under the terms of the open source licence, the PIVOTE code, which will include the web application and in-world scripts, can be freely used, modified and shared.
To mark this move to a stable release an information centre has been created on the St. George’s island. This will remain open after the launch date and will provide resources including videos, Second Life objects and links to the web.
The PIVOTE information centre can be found at
http://slurl.com/secondlife/St%20Georges%20University/121/36/21
On the 10th March, between 11am and 5pm GMT there will be representatives from SGUL and Daden Limited around the information centre who will be running an informal drop-in session. We would like to invite anybody who feels they would be interested in seeing or using PIVOTE to come along at some point between these hours and either talk to us or take a look around. We will be happy to discuss any questions that you might have, or to point you in the direction of the information that you need. Please feel free to come along unannounced, the SGUL island is open to visitors and the more the merrier!
